The Colors of Boredom

Before the Fall semester was over in 09, I bought myself some yarn and a set of Crochet looms, as I knew I would grow bored during the break.. something I have been wanting to try anyway.. well little did I know that I would become addicted to yarn.. I found myself frothing at the mouth when reading the sunday newspaper ads for Michaels and Hobby Lobby.. looking for sales on yarn... It started out as simple hats and then escalated to hats with fringe and now fingerless mittens... I dont have a pic of them yet but as soon as I do.. I will post them.. anywho.... here are a few examples of my yarn addiction..

First Crit.. First sculpture of the fall semester

First Project complete!!, yay, 3 more to go for the semester... We had our first Crit yesterday and I think it went well... I really learn a lot from the crits.. It helps a person see things about their art from different perspectives... Perhaps giving someone an Idea that they could have done or should have done differently.. as art students we need all the help we can get in order to become the artist we are all striving to be.. This piece below is a mixed media.. combining wood, ceramic, metal and concrete... it stems from my life experiences of dealing with children who abuse drugs and end up in jail.. Ultimately, it is a coping mechanism for my feelings, an outlet of sorts to release the pent up emotions of helplessness in this sort of situation...

Loading the glaze kiln.. First one for the fall semester

Finally enough stuff to fill the glaze kiln, Yay!! The hands and the face are in there and ready to get hot and bothered.... lol.. Cant wait to see how everything comes out.. it is like christmas each time the kiln door opens after cooling off... check bac to see the outcome!!

It is always a good Idea to have a slim, limber friend around when loading the glaze kiln,
Thank Goodness for Anna....... couldnt have done it with out her.... well I could have but
I probably would have been stuck in there till someone found me......
